Premium
MinFangst is free to use for keeping your journal. Premium unlocks the more advanced features for those who want more out of the app. MinFangst has no adverts, and premium pays for map data, servers and the further development of the app.
What is free?
Most of MinFangst is free for everyone:
- Log an unlimited number of catches and sessions
- Exact GPS points
- The whole map of lakes, rivers and sea, also without coverage
- Your own lakes and catch spots on the map
- Reported species on the map and search by fish species
- Observations from other anglers on the lakes
- Water temperature
- Information about salmon rivers and fishing licences at the locations
- Statistics and achievements
- Friends, feed and scoreboard
- Automatic sync and backup
Without premium you can also see an example of the fishing forecast: a real forecast for Mjøsa, calculated the moment you open it. The figure right now, the level, the best time today and which species is doing best are free to see.
What do you get with Premium?
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Alerts about conditions | A message on your phone when the water flow, water temperature, forecast or weather at your favorite places changes to something worth a trip. The threshold is calculated from the measurements at each individual place, so you do not need to set any figures yourself. See Settings. |
| Fishing forecast | Bite score hour by hour and three days ahead, calculated from the fish species in the water, sun and moon, weather, water temperature and tide, with the best fishing times of the day and a forecast by species. See Fishing forecast. |
| Likely species | Which fish species are recorded in the water in public species data, even when nobody has reported them in the app. Without premium you see how many species there are and when they were last recorded, but the name and picture are hidden. See The map. |
| Season and sizes | If you tap a species in the map panel, you see when in the year it has been reported in that particular lake, the average weight or average length and the largest one recorded. See The map. |
| Depth maps | Depth data for sea and lakes as a separate map layer you turn on and off. The depth maps come from NVE (the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate) and Kartverket (the Norwegian Mapping Authority) and so far only cover Norwegian waters. If you fish in Sweden, the map layer is empty. |
| Weather at the place | Temperature, wind and air pressure now, and a forecast three days ahead, for the lake you open on the map. |
| Tide and water level | High and low tide for the sea area you fish in, with a curve for the whole day. In rivers the tide is shown in the same way, and some way up a salmon river the app shows the tide at the river mouth, which is what decides when the sea trout and salmon run up. On the Swedish coast, where there is hardly any tide, the app instead shows the measured water level from SMHI (the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute): the level now, whether it is rising or falling, and how high and low it has been over the last day. |
| Water flow and water level | Measuring stations on the map and at your favorite lakes, from NVE in Norway and SMHI in Sweden. The latest measurement is ready in the app, also without coverage. The figures are also saved on the fishing session and the catch, so you can see how big the river was on the day you fished. The measurement is taken from the nearest station, and if you have set an exact point on the entry, the distance is counted from where you stood. That matters on a long river, where the stations can be many kilometers apart. |
| Weather log on every trip | The fishing session and the catch are saved with the weather where you were: temperature, weather type, wind, air pressure, water temperature, tide and water flow. If you open an old trip, you see the conditions on exactly that day. If you log a trip afterwards, the conditions are fetched for the day the trip actually took place, and this also applies to the trips already in your journal. |
| Analysis by fish species | Each fish species gets its own analysis based on your catches: weather, air pressure, moon phase, time of day, season and tide, summed up in plain words. See Statistics. |
| Your fishing year | A yearly summary in the statistics with trips, fish, species, new species, heaviest catch and best month for each year. |
| Export to spreadsheet | Download your whole journal as a spreadsheet (CSV). See Sync and export. |
TIP
The conditions are saved on your catches and sessions also without premium. You see a card on the entry saying which measurements are saved, for example weather, water temperature and water flow. The figures themselves are shown when you get premium, also on trips you logged long before.
Getting Premium
Go to Profile → Get premium. There you find a table showing what is free and what premium adds, and at the bottom of the screen are the price and the buy button. Premium is bought as a subscription through the App Store or Google Play, and may come with a free trial. The page needs a connection.
You choose how long the subscription runs, under See all subscriptions:
- One year, which is paid once a year and is clearly cheaper per month. It suits fishing that follows the seasons: you do not have to cancel in the autumn and buy back in again in the spring.
- One month, which is paid month by month.
Both give access to exactly the same features.
Restoring a purchase
If you have bought premium before, for example on another phone, tap Restore purchases under Profile, right under Get premium. The app then fetches your subscription, even if it was bought in the other store (App Store or Google Play), and tells you whether the purchase came back or whether there was nothing to restore. The row is only shown when the app does not already see an active subscription.
Managing your subscription
If you have Premium, the row under Profile is called My premium. There you see the status and details, and Manage subscription takes you further. The subscription itself, that is renewal and cancellation, is managed through the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android), the same way as all subscriptions on your phone:
- iPhone: Open Settings on your phone, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions and MinFangst premium.
- Android: Open Google Play, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions and MinFangst premium.
The subscription renews automatically until you cancel it.
NOTE
Trial periods and prices may vary. The exact terms are shown in the app before you confirm the purchase.
