Sync, backup and export
Your data is at the heart of MinFangst, and the app is built so that you never lose it.
Automatic sync
Everything you enter, that is fishing sessions, catches, observations, photos and favorites, is saved on your phone first and synced automatically to the server when you are online. This means that:
- Your data is safe even if your phone is lost or replaced.
- You get everything back if you sign in again on a new phone.
You do not need to do anything yourself, because the sync runs in the background.
See when you last synced
At the bottom of Profile it says when the app last synced, for example Last synced with a time. That is also where you find the Sync now button, which starts a sync straight away if you do not want to wait.
Photos on Wi-Fi only
If you want to save mobile data, you can turn on Upload photos on Wi-Fi only under Profile → Settings. Your catches are then synced as before, while the photos wait until the phone is on a wireless network.
When the connection is slow or gone
The app is built for use in the field, where coverage can be poor:
- You can log catches, observations and sessions even without a connection. Autosave keeps everything safe on your phone.
- When you get coverage again, the changes are synced automatically.
- On a slow connection you may see the message "Slow connection, retrying later". The app then tries again by itself, and you do not need to do anything.
TIP
You can safely fish a whole day without coverage. Everything you enter is kept ready and synced as soon as you are back online.
Signing out
When you sign out, your entries are removed from the phone. Everything that has been synced is safe in your account and comes back the next time you sign in. If you have entered something without coverage, you should therefore check that Last synced shows a new time on Profile before you sign out.
Backup
In addition to the sync, regular backups are taken on the server side, so your data is also protected against accidents on our side.
Exporting your journal
With Premium you can export your whole journal to a spreadsheet under Profile → Settings → Export data (CSV). Tap Share or save spreadsheet, and you get two CSV files that you can save or send on:
- Catches: every fish with date, species, weight, length, depth, bait, place and weather. The depth is in meters and is filled in for fish you have caught at sea, see Depth.
- Sessions: your fishing trips with time, place and notes.
The files can be opened in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. That way you keep your data for your own use, even if you one day stop using MinFangst.
NOTE
The export contains text data only. Photos are not included in the spreadsheet, and the CSV files cannot be imported back into the app. They are meant as a personal copy of your data.
