Frequently asked questions

Does MinFangst cost anything?

No, keeping a journal is free. You can log an unlimited number of catches, sessions and observations, use the map, see which fish species others have reported in each lake, see the water temperature, see statistics, add friends and use the feed and the scoreboard without paying. Sync and backup are free too.

The planning tools are in Premium: the fishing forecast, alerts about conditions, weather, tide, water flow, depth maps, likely species in the water, analysis by fish species and export to spreadsheet.

Can I use the app without coverage?

Yes. You can log catches, observations and sessions without a connection, and the map of lakes, rivers and sea areas is stored in the app. Everything is synced automatically when you are back in coverage. See Sync, backup and export.

Does the app work in Sweden?

Yes. The map covers Swedish lakes, rivers and coastal waters in the same way as the Norwegian ones, and the app suggests the Swedish lake you are standing by based on your location. Water temperature, water flow and water level are also available for Swedish waters. The app can also be used in Swedish and English, see Settings and account.

Can others see where my favorite spots are?

No. Exact GPS points are never shared with others, not with friends or in the public feed. If you do not want your friends to see which lake a catch is from either, choose No place or Private under Who can see this? on the entry. See Privacy and security.

What is the difference between the feed and the friends feed?

Under Feed you will find three parts. Feed is the public feed, where everyone who uses MinFangst sees the catches others have chosen to post. Friends shows what your friends share, and Scoreboard compares you with your friends. Friendship is mutual: both of you have to accept the request. See Friends and scoreboard.

Why did part of my photo disappear?

When you add a photo, you choose the crop yourself in the photo editor. You can move, zoom, rotate and choose Whole photo if you want to include everything. If you tap the photo afterwards, it is shown full screen. See Crop and rotate.

What does the number in the fishing forecast mean?

It is a pointer from 0 to 10 to how well the fish are likely to bite. The number is calculated from the fish species living in the water, the season, the weather, the air pressure, the water temperature and the sun and moon. See Fishing forecast.

How accurate is the water temperature?

It is an estimate, not a measurement. For freshwater it is calculated from the air temperature over time and the size of the lake, and for the sea from an ocean model. It becomes more accurate as people submit real readings. See Water temperature.

Why is there weather on trips I logged afterwards?

If you log a trip after it is over, the app fetches the weather, water temperature and tide as they actually were on that day and at that place. If you change the date later, the conditions are fetched again for the new date. If there are no figures for the place and the day, the trip is shown without weather. The figures are shown with Premium.

I changed phones. Do I get my data back?

Yes. Sign in with the same account, and your catches, sessions and photos are downloaded again from the sync. If you have premium, tap Restore purchases under Profile if the subscription does not show up by itself.

How do I delete my account?

Under Profile → Settings → Delete account. Please note that deletion is permanent, see Settings and account.

Why does it say I need to update the app?

When a newer version is available in the App Store or Google Play, you get a notice at the top of Journal with the button Update the app now, which takes you straight to the store. The notice disappears by itself once the app has been updated. You can also tap Check for updates at the bottom of Profile. You lose nothing by updating, because your catches, sessions and photos are safe in the sync.

What is the poll that appears in the app?

From time to time we ask what you think, for example about what we should build next. A banner then appears at the top of Journal and Feed, and if you tap Answer the questions, you get a few short questions, one at a time. It takes less than a minute.

You can close the box at any time, and the answers you have given are kept on your phone so you can continue later. Nothing is sent to us until you have answered all the questions and tap Submit your answer. After that the banner disappears. You need a connection to answer, and you can answer once per poll.

What is the message at the top of Journal?

Now and then we send a short message about something new in the app or something you should know about. It appears at the top of Journal, with a heading and a few lines of text, and there is nothing you have to do with it. If you tap the cross on the right, it disappears, and it does not come back the next time you open the app.

If a poll is running at the same time, the poll takes that spot. The message then only appears once the poll is over or you have answered it. You get the message in the language your app is set to, and there is never more than one at a time.

I found a bug. What do I do?
